Artificial intelligence has been growing in popularity lately. This technology is being adopted everywhere, and the arts are no exception.

Machine learning (ML) algorithms help to solve general computational problems (pattern recognition, fast processing of large data sets, etc.) as well as non-trivial creative tasks (generative deep learning models that enable the creation of new shapes and images from a simple text description or sketch). When combined with an artist’s creativity, very interesting results can be achieved. Many neural network artists find original solutions and acquire their recognizable style.

A neural network is most often used for pattern recognition: some unstructured information, such as images, sound, or text, is inserted into the input data, and the output we want to get some semantic output. For example, for an image, it could be information about the objects in it. However, a neural network can also be used to generate new data — such networks are called generative networks.
